Art and stories communicate our ideas and messages – tales and adventures that can have a lasting impression on those that enter that world.
As a little boy, my father would tell me the most amazing stories, many he had imagined and through the life of the characters he described, I too was drawn into their worlds. With his words, he painted the picture of how a community of bugs lived and the daily workings of their lives and what happened to one young member of their community when he ventured from the rock in which they lived beneath – to the BIG world outside. My dad told me of Peter Rabbit as well, but he wouldn’t read, he would orate the story in voices and expressions that would fit the characters, he would describe the crunch and taste of the delicious carrot that
so enjoyed.
As an artist/illustrator, I strive to capture unique qualities of the characters.
As a young boy, I modeled my drawings from the illustration styles of the Marvel
Comics artists but in my teens I turned my attention to music and spent many years as a singer/songwriter.
As my work in drawing and painting resurfaced, I began working in the mediums of charcoal, pastel and colored pencils.
In my art studies, I’ve been working in the style of Realism through The Ani Art Academy Waichulis program, ‘The Language of Drawing’ and in 2016 I received my three-year Studio Arts Certificate from the Worcester Art Museum in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Living life on Cape Cod – writing & illustrating my first children's book.
A good start John.
